The Phoenix Suns face the Denver Nuggets in Game 1 of the semifinal round of the Western Conference Playoffs on Monday at 7 p. m. MT at Phoenix Suns Arena. The game will be televised by TNT. The Suns, who finished with the second-best record in the West in the regular season, defeated the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers in six games during their first-round series. It was Phoenix first playoff series win since the 2009-10 season, which was also its last postseason appearance and when it advanced to the Western Conference Finals and fell to the Lakers. Denver, which finished with the third-best record in the West at 47-25, beat the sixth-seeded Portland Trail Blazers in six games. The Nuggets were led in that series by MVP candidate Nikola Jokic, who averaged 33. 0 points, 10. 5 rebounds and 4. 5 assists on 52. 8 percent shooting. Despite injury issues with starting point guard Jamal Murray, who tore his left ACL in April, starting guard Will Barton, who suffered a right hamstring strain in late April and will not play in Game 1, and forward PJ Dozier, who has been out with an adductor strain since early May, the Nuggets are the only team that advanced to the conference finals last season that is still in the playoffs Deandre Ayton T-Shirt. Ahead of Monday series opener, we caught up with Denver Stiffs beat writer Brandon Ewing about the latest on Denver, including his takeaways from its series win over Portland, team outlook without Murray and how starting forward Michael Porter Jr. has stepped up in Murray absence. Here what Ewing had to say about the matchup. 1. What were your main takeaways from the Nuggets first-round win over the Trail Blazers The Nuggets bench unit being a pleasant surprise, led by the play of Monte Morris. Not only was Morris super impactful on both ends of the floor all series long, but he finally seemed to be 100 percent after suffering a couple of injuries throughout the regular season. Morris made some huge shots in crunch time to help the Nuggets get past the Trail Blazers and has done as good a job as possible trying to fill Jamal Murray shoes. Alongside Nikola Jokic and Michael Porter Jr. , Morris has become the Nuggets hird guy for lack of a better term and should play a big role in this series as well. From an overall perspective, what are some of the biggest improvements he has made this season Nikola Jokic has been dominant in every aspect of his game over the past few seasons, but this year he truly taken a step forward with his aggressiveness to score. In years past, Jokic would often pass too much and not look for his shot, but this year has been the opposite. Jokic has looked to score a ton more, and ever since Jamal Murray went down, he stepped it up even more. When the Nuggets need a bucket, it feels like Jokic always finds a way to deliver. That aggression led him to an MVP-caliber season and the Nuggets to the second round, so hopefully he continues to look for his shot in this series and beyond because when he does he virtually unstoppable https://www.phoenixfanstoreonline.com/Cameron_Johnson_Flag-57. Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports3. It was a devastating blow when Jamal Murray tore his left ACL in April, especially since the Nuggets won 17 of 20 games shortly before that. How has his absence affected the team, and what have been the pros and cons of Michael Porter Jr. stepping into a role as Denver No. 2 option It affected the team certainly at the beginning just because Murray is the heartbeat of this Nuggets group. One thing about the Nuggets in years past and specifically this year is they are a resilient group led by head coach Michael Malone. When the Nuggets have their backs against the wall, they find a way to get the job done and they have done just that since Murray went down. As for Porter Jr. , he stepped into his role as the Nuggets No. 2 guy perfectly and has done a great job not just improving as a scorer, but defensively as well. The only con is there been a lot of pressure on Porter to play well, but he had no issue handling that and continues to produce on both ends of the floor. Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports4. On the other side of that coin, coach Michael Malone has really steadied the ship for Denver, especially since Will Barton and PJ Dozier have also been out of late. In your opinion, is Denver still a championship-caliber team without Murray If so, why is that I had my doubts coming into the playoffs just because I wasn sure the Nuggets had enough depth to get the job done. They put that worry to bed in their opening-round series against Portland Cameron Payne T-Shirt, as they still found a way to beat the Trail Blazers in six games even while Damian Lillard was going nuclear every game. Denver is still a championship contender because of its belief in one another and its never give up attitude. No matter what the situation is, it always feels like the Nuggets find a way to win, which they put on full display last year in the Bubble and since Murray went down this year. Also, when you have a superstar like Jokic on your team, youe never out of a series, which makes them a constant championship contender. 5. What will be the biggest keys for the Nuggets in their series against the Suns Defending the 3-point line has to be the Nuggets main concern coming into this series. They did not do a great job of slowing down Portland offense from beyond the arc, and now theye facing a Suns team that is phenomenal at shooting the three ball. Slowing down shooters like Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson is going to be a challenge for the Nuggets, but they have to find a way to at least make life difficult for them if they want to have success in this series. 6. Who will win this series, and in how many games Il take the Nuggets in 7 games because I like their experience in the playoffs over Phoenix. That was the only worry I had about the Suns against the Lakers, but they found a way to get the job done and prove a ton of people wrong. I think regardless of who wins, it going to be a fun series and no matter who wins, theyl have a great chance of advancing to the NBA Finals Kevin Johnson T-Shirt.

With multiple big news outlets now confirming Tuesday New York Post exclusive on the Nets sale to e-commerce billionaire Joe Tsai, the team incredible summer continues. Coming a month after signing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the news cements the Brooklyn Nets as the NBA team of the summer . . . if not all of pro sports. With its $2. 35 billion price tag, Tsai purchase of the team from Mikhail Prokhorov will be the biggest in U. S. sports history. It will top hedge fund owner David Tepper $2. 2 billion purchase last year of the NFL Carolina Panthers and Tilman Fertitta $2. 2 billion purchase of the NBA Houston Rockets the year before https://www.brooklynfanstoreonline.com/Jeff_Green_Face_Mask-102. Tsai, of course, also becomes the first ethnic Chinese owner in the NBA, pushing the Nets brand deep into China sports mindset. Tsai is also a director of NBA China. His company, Huangzhou-based Alibaba, rivals Amazon worldwide in various fields of e-commerce, including artificial intelligence. Among the news organizations to independently confirm the move nd the likelihood that it will get done in the next 48 hours or so are ESPN, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Newsday and several international outlets. There were conflicting reports on what will happen with Tsai interest in Barclays Center, also owned by Prokhorov, with the Times suggesting the Taiwanese billionaire will ventually gain control of that, too. According to one league source, the final price tag of the team and arena could reach $3 billion. Tsai bought 49 percent of the Nets in May 2018, with an option to buy the remaining 51 percent at a total cost of $2. 35 billion. The option date for the final purchase had been January 2021, but apparently the two sides agreed to move up the transaction. Tsai had publicly dismissed the need to accelerate purchase whn he was interviewed by New York media, including NetsDaily, back in May. However, at the same time, Tsai talked about the value of articipating in the arena ownership. think the NBA definitely encourages the team ownership and building ownership to be combined under one roof, said Tsai back then. nd Ie talked to other owners and they tell me that being a renter is definitely not fun. When you own the building, you own your own destiny. . . f the opportunity arises for me to participate in the building in any way, I would love to do that. or the fan, Tsai ownership, at least on the surface, shouldn bring many changes from the Prokhorov era which saw the team go from New Jersey and the worst venue in pro sports to Brooklyn and Barclays Center. Tsai has committed to supplying Sean Marks and Kenny Atkinson with the resources needed to make the Nets a perennial championship contender. Tsai and Prokhorov both have an estimated net worth of $10 billion. Tsai and Prokhorov] have both shown the support we need from a basketball operations department, Marks said in one of interviews after the height of free agency Brooklyn Nets Printed T-Shirts. he ultimate goal for everybody is to win the whole thing. sai is likely to be a far more public presence than Prokhorov whose visits to Barclays Center became few and far between in the last several years. Tsai, with a residence in La Jolla outside San Diego and his three children in U. S. schools, has attended Nets home and away games, sometimes with his family, in the last two years. He will also be generally more visible in the media. Prokhorov hasn spoken publicly to the New York media in more than three years, although he took questions from NetsDaily fans just after the big signings. Tsai, meanwhile, spoke to the city sports media back in May. On non-basketball matters, has become somewhat of a fixture on newspaper business pages and business cable, often criticizing President Trump China trade policies Kyrie Irving Pet Jersey. Tsai is also more familiar with New York, having attended Lawrenceville School outside Trenton and receiving both his undergraduate and law degrees from Yale at the opposite end of the metropolitan area in New Haven. On graduation, he worked in law and investments in the city . . . and met his wife https://www.brooklynfanstoreonline.com/Kj_Mcdaniels_Pillow_Cover-117, Clara Wu, here. He left New York two decades ago to co-found Alibaba. Perhaps most importantly for the Nets long-term is that Tsai will become one of the NBA most powerful owners. He will own a team in the league biggest market and be one of only four owners who control franchises in the NBA, WNBA, G League and NBA2K leagues. He is also already on the board of NBA China. Indeed, the Nets are likely to become a much bigger presence in China where despite recent tensions the NBA is huge. Durant and Irving are both among the five most popular players in the NBA, as measured by jersey sales. (Don be surprised if the Nets somehow acquire a Chinese player in the future. Tsai told NetsDaily he would like to see that. )What next, after the agreement is announced The NBA Board of Governors will have to approve the sale, considered a formality. The Orlando Magic did what they had to do on Monday, agreeing to contract extensions with both Jonathan Isaac and Markelle Fultz. With both players heading into their fourth year in the league, they were eligible for rookie extensions, and the Magic got them both done, keeping each out of restricted free agency next summer. That likely favors the Magic, who coulde been at a slight disadvantage to keep both due to the amount of teams who currently project to have cap space next summer. That being said, both deals come with some inherent risk for the Magic. Fultz, who after two rocky years in Philadelphia, had a breakout year of sorts in Orlando, averaging 12. 1 points, 5. 1 assists and 3. 3 rebounds per game. After playing in just 33 games combined in his first two years, the electrifying point guard missed just one game last season, playing in 72 regular season games, including 60 starts. While it was good to see Fultz stay healthy and show flashes, there are still things to be concerned about. His shooting still has a long way to go for him to become consistent on that end, and he has moments where he too tentative in the offense. As the league has transitioned into a heavy reliance on point guards who can not only score, but also create for others, Fultz seemed to have too many moments where he might not take advantage of a matchup, or find a way to get a bucket when his team may need one Chasson Randle Pillow Cover. That going to be the next step in his development this season under Steve Clifford. Fultz has to be more in command of the offense, especially with rookie Cole Anthony behind him, and show that he can do the things he showed off last season on a regular basis. While Fultz will be out on the court, Isaac will be on the sidelines rehabbing from a torn ACL. Not being on the court is becoming an all too familiar thing for Isaac, who has played in more than 34 games just once in his three seasons. A myriad of lower leg injuries has slowed Isaac, from an ankle injury in his rookie season, to a knee injury last, the versatile forward has been unable to stay on the floor. When he been on the floor, however, Isaac has oozed potential, especially on the defensive end of the floor. Not only has he shown an ability to protect the rim and block shots, but the 6-foot-10 forward has also shown flashes of being a lock down defender on the perimeter, slowing down smaller wings, and using his physicality to take others, like Toronto Pascal Siakam, off of their spots https://www.storeorlando.com/Jason_Williams_Pet_Jersey-107. The biggest issue for Isaac, who I think has the most tar potential on this Magic roster, is staying healthy. The Magic have had their issues in the past with players who struggled to stay healthy due to lower leg injuries hello, Grant Hill and committing this kind of money right now is definitely an interesting decision for the Magic who have tied a lot of their cap space to Nikola Vucevic, Terrence Ross, and Aaron Gordon already. Now, if Isaac can end up staying healthy and continue to show the rapid signs of growth he has when he been on the court, this could be a steal for the Magic. Nonetheless, both of these deals are calculated risks for Orlando. It not clear if Markelle Fultz will ever become even a league average shooter which he admittedly might not need to do with his ability to get to the basket seemingly at will but teams will be able to zero in on that more if he doesn become a better shooter https://www.storeorlando.com/Moritz_Wagner_Pet_Jersey-131. He also only 22-years-old, and will likely continue to progress over this season and next, so itl be hard to gauge just how good of a deal the Magic got right away. Jonathan Isaac has the potential to be a Defensive Player of the Year type, but his inability to stay healthy has to be concerning. Could the injuries and lack of playing time slow down his development not only on that end, but offensive as well Or could more extended time off help Isaac see the game better and understand it in a more in-depth way Ultimately, the Magic made two moves that they needed to make before the start of the season. It makes a lot of sense to lock both Fultz and Isaac up long-term, but it still two moves that come with some risk, and it risks that the Magic are willing to take.

On Friday afternoon, Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred announced that the 2021 All-Star Game and MLB Draft would not be held in Georgia in response to recently-passed state legislation affecting elections. It is a frankly astonishing move, and is worthy of our praise. To be clear, this article is not a place to debate the merits of said Georgia law. Sources more professional than this site have already read through it and confirmed that https://www.philadelphiagearstore.com/Damon_Jones_Hoodie-148, yes, it does indeed make it harder for many Georgia voters to cast their ballots, particularly Black voters. Most egregiously, handing out food and water to individuals who are waiting in line to vote has become a crime. The law is almost certainly a response to the 2020 election by the state Republican legislature doing their very damnedest to prevent Democrats from winning statewide elections again. That is plainly and clearly wrong. What was not clear, though, was how businesses and organizations with stakes in Georgia would respond to this legislation Sam Coonrod Face Mask.Playing the All-Star Game in Atlanta, and this one in particular, was a big deal for all parties involved. For the Braves, it was their best chance to showcase their new(ish) home at Truist Park to a truly national audience on a night when theirs is the only game in town. For the Atlanta area, it would bring money to the local economy and promote their status as a power player on the national stage. For MLB, it would put the game best and brightest stars on display, as all All-Star Games do. And, completely by accident, it turned into an opportunity to feature something more, something bigger than baseball.Atlanta is one of the birthplaces of the Civil Rights Movement and was home to Henry Aaron, the Braves legend who passed away during the offseason. You might remember that 2020 turned out to be a very turbulent year for the United States, with the country putting a renewed focus on race and equality. MLB has frequently led with empty promises to honor its much-touted civil rights history, but this was shaping up to be a can-miss opportunity: holding their biggest single event of the year in a city with strong ties to both the late home run king and civil rights https://www.philadelphiagearstore.com/Richie_Ashburn_Hoodie-101, against the backdrop of a shaken nation? Yeah, thatl do. The serendipity of the moment was simply too good to be true. And then, suddenly, it was too good to be true once the legislature had its say. With the stroke of a pen, Georgia government dared investors and employers to say something about it. Many eventually came around to speak out against it, ranging from international companies with Georgia offices, such as Microsoft, to local heavyweights, like Coca-Cola and Delta, all decrying the law (the latter earning a specifically-targeted piece of legislation from that same statehouse to revoke a tax exemption for their troubles). But MLB position and options were less clear. It worth remembering that leagues have moved big games in reaction to political events before. The NFL moved the 1993 Super Bowl out of Arizona over their voters not recognizing Martin Luther King Day, and North Carolina lost the 2017 NBA All-Star Game and several NCAA championship events following the passage of their notorious athroom bill targeting LGBTQ+ individuals. But those decisions were made in different circumstances: MLB has way less time to figure out new logistics than in other instances, and the current political environment is very different, especially considering that Georgia is far from the only state that considered overhauling their voting laws. Had the All-Star Game stayed put in Atlanta, it would have been a defensible decision, although MLB would likely have faced boycotts of the game by prominent players. This makes it all the more surprising that Commissioner Manfred did the right thing. Moving the game was undoubtedly the more difficult option, and while MLBPA Director Tony Clark public comments that the matter would be under consideration may have greased the wheels, the decision was Manfred alone. This decision took a lot of courage and deserves our support, which is particularly surprising given Manfred history of, well, seemingly doing his best at all times to undermine the things that fans love about baseball. But give credit where it is due: the Commissioner listened to players, made a tough decision, and issued a public statement proclaiming his league proud support for the voting rights of all Americans:It hard to say what happens next Zack Wheeler Pillow Cover. The game new location has not yet been announced, but there are certain locations that are likely ruled out given that their legislatures are embarking on similar paths to Georgia, like Texas. It also raises the question of whether league-wide events can only be held in states with certain political leanings, given how polarized support for this kind of legislation is along partisan lines. And you can blame any Braves fans or the Atlanta-area residents who were looking forward to attending the game in their hometown and are now deeply disappointed. No sympathy should be reserved for the Braves themselves, though, who put out an asinine statement about how they are the true victims of MLB decision after nothing but silence on the actual legislation. Maybe now theyl have to move their memorials of Hank Aaron and Phil Niekro to more prominent positions on their uniforms since their All-Star Game patches will presumably be removed and never seen again.Still, we shouldn lose sight of the fact that this is a truly historic and audacious decision from a man usually known for his lack of fortitude. Rob Manfred faced a curveball, and, for once, knocked it out of the park.

Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell entered the seventh inning with just a one-run lead and without having allowed a hit Kevin Long Hoodie. A Francisco Lindor single plus a Tommy Pham two-base error threatened to erase all of that, but three straight outs stranded Lindor on third base, with Snell snuffing the Mets best scoring chance of the night. Mets starter Joey Lucchesi pitched well through 4 2/3rds innings, his one blemish giving up a monstrous first-inning solo home run to Manny Machado, but with the Mets bats as punchless as they were, it was all the Padres needed to win their second game in a row this series. Featuring a starting lineup with unexpected contributors Mason Williams https://www.newprostoreonline.com/Howard_Johnson_Pet_Jersey-222, Brandon Drury, Jos Peraza, and Billy McKinney (while resting everyday contributors Jonathan Villar and Dom Smith), the Mets managed only one hit over seven innings against Snell, who had been struggling in 2021 up until this start. Lindor provided the only semblance of offense for the Mets, sending a 390-foot out to deep center field in the first inning and registering two of the team three hits of the night with singles in the seventh and ninth innings https://www.newprostoreonline.com/Gary_Carter_T_shirt-7.

It was a beautiful (albeit cold) day at Target Field on Sunday. As I sat in one of the deepest parts of center field with my family, and a smattering of families from our elementary school. Despite the smiles being hidden by masks, and friends being separated by seats that had been zip-tied closed https://www.minnesotagearshop.com/Tzu_wei_Lin_Face_Mask-386, our school outing was a fundraising success. It even looked like we be walking away with a win. Hooray!<Enter Alex Colom in the 9th and cue the record scratch>I sent this text to the other Twinkie Towners in the 9th of the game after Colom blew yet another save:I can prove it, but I have my suspicions. We here at Twinkie Town were fairly pumped to have had the Twins sign the veteran reliever back in February. In 2016, he was an All Star, and in 2017, he lead all of the majors with 47 saves. His only ad season was the first half of 2018 - but then he was traded to Seattle, got his head on straight, and dominated his opponents by giving up just 13 earned runs in 46. 1 innings. As the White Sox closer, he amassed 30 saves in 2019, and put up a . 081 ERA in his 12 saves in 2020 shortened season. So it was a safe bet that he be a suitable replacement for some of those arms that we lost in the off season. But so far I underwhelmed. Granted, he only appeared in 5 games in this very young season, but in said 5 games. . . well it not good. He blew the save in his first appearance on Opening Day - though, none of the three runs scored in the ninth were technically earned by him and Rob Manfred Randy Dobnak got the loss in the tenth. And Sunday loss saw Colom most definitely earn the three runs that lost the game in the ninth. He does have two saves under his belt so far Alex Kirilloff Flag, but the two blown saves have definitely put a shadow over his overall performance. Ok, so I don think he actually still in cahoots with his former team, but I do think he got some work to do in order to prove himself as someone who can be our go-to guy in the ninth here in Minnesota. As fans, wee been spoiled by closers like Everyday Eddie or Joe tand up and Shout Nathan, knowing that once they come into the game, you might as well start heading to the parking lot because it lights out. When guys like that are still in the memory of Twins fans, itl be hard to stack up, no matter who you are. Part of me is wondering when we are going to hear about some nagging injury as he sent to the IL to be able to put another pitcher (cough cough Devin Smeltzer) in the rotation while he works out his new-team kinks. (Or maybe when they do the same with a struggling Cave or Sano and bring in Kirilloff, but that for a different post entirely). In any case, I am hoping that Colom can get his head on straight before we get too deep into the season https://www.minnesotagearshop.com/Caleb_Thielbar_Flag-175. The damage done so far has been minimal, but I waiting to see the lights-out guy we thought we were signing.

Box ScoreThursday afternoon series finale between the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres began as a pitcher duel but ended with offensive fireworks, as both teams put a licking on the other bullpen. Adrian Houser started for Milwaukee and pitched five scoreless frames, allowing just one hit and one walk. He punched out four and induced six ground ball outs to two flyouts. Ryan Weathers opened things up for the Padres; he gone back and forth a bit with his role this season his first in the big leagues https://www.milwaukeefanstoreonline.com/Ray_Black_T_shirt-25, at age 21 and worked four scoreless frames on 78 pitches, allowing one hit and a pair of walks while fanning five. Milwaukee offense struck first in the fifth inning against Nabil Crissmatt. Daniel Robertson doubled with one out, and moved to third with two outs on a wild pitch. Lorenzo Cain walked to bring up Willy Adames, and he singled to make it a 1-0 game. The next batter, Avisail Garcia, was credited with a hit on a play where Fernando Tatis https://www.milwaukeefanstoreonline.com/Kolten_Wong_Hoodie-93, Jr. recorded both a fielding and throwing error, and Cain scored to make it a 2-0 game. Things tilted back towards San Diego in the top of the sixth against Trevor Richards. Tommy Pham doubled to lead the inning off, then scored on a two-out double by Tatis, Jr. Then Eric Hosmer blasted a 1-0 changeup over the fence in center for a two-run shot, making it 3-2 San Diego. The Brewers stormed back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh. Kolten Wong singled to lead off, then pinch-hitter Christian Yelich walked. Wong and Yelich pulled off a double steal to put runners on second and third for Adames with one out, and they all scored when he smashed a 2-0 knucklecurve from Craig Stammen over the fence in left to make it 5-3. The lead wouldn hold, though, as Devin Williams coughed it up in the eighth. He walked Jurickson Profar to get things started, who stole second base and scored on a one-out single by Tatis, Jr. Hosmer then singled, and Manny Machado hit an RBI double to tie things up at 5-5. Things could have been worse, too Jackie Bradley, Jr. gunned down Eric Hosmer at home plate as he attempted to score. Josh Hader pitched a perfect ninth and the Brewers went scoreless against old friend Miguel Diaz who entered the game with a 0. 69 ERA in 13 Angel Perdomo Flag. 0 innings o this game went to extras. Brent Suter pitched a scoreless top of the 10th, stranding the automatic runner on second. Leading off the bottom of the 10th, Keston Hiura laid down a sacrifice bunt to move runner Omar Narvaez up to third. Luis Urias then flew out, but with two down, JBJ delivered a single to bring home Narvaez a walk things off, 6-5. The Brewers hit the road to Washington on Friday to begin a three-game weekend series against the Nationals. Itl be a matchup of veteran lefties in the opener as Brett Anderson is scheduled to start against Jon Lester, with first pitch slated for 6:05 PM central.
